Spell It Out

Spell It Out

Did you know that the name “Sesame Street” comes from the magical phrase“open sesame”? It’s supposed to make us think about discovering exciting new places. Now, you can explore fun nail art that recalls the nostalgia and thrill of this favorite children’s TV show.

Let’s begin with a hand-lettered manicure that brings back memories of learning to spell with these adorable Muppets. Remember Big Bird and Mr. Snuffleupagus doing Alphabet Day? Here, many of the program’s main characters are peeking up out of the nails, keeping you company while you learn. The beautiful hand-painted details make it feel like a work of love, right down to a faithful rendering of the expressions.

If you’re going to invest this much time and effort into Sesame Street nail art, we recommend beginning with a durable base coat that protects your hard work plus your natural nails. The Bouncy Blush Collection of rubber base gels have shades for every skin tone.

Sesame Street French Tips

Sesame Street French Tips

Look who’s popping up to say hello! These Sesame Street nails are bursting with color under bold black tips that frame the stars of the show. The thick black bands put the focus on the eyes so it’s easy to identify the characters even if they were in a monochrome photo. You’ve got Oscar’s fuzzy brows next to Bert’s unibrow, with wide-eyed Ernie keeping sweet Elmo company. Cookie Monster’s googly gaze peers over from the thumb. The eyes bring each character to life while the glossy finish adds the perfect polish (pun intended) to this childhood-inspired design.

Sesame Street Stuff They Didn’t Tell You

Did you know that TV Guide ranked Sesame Street number twenty-seven of the fifty greatest TV shows of all time? It held its ground against The Simpsons, 60 Minutes, and Seinfeld. That was a couple of decades ago before the show was shifted from public television to streaming services.

Back when Sesame Street began, the goal was to make learning fun for children, but also include winky bits and celebrity cameos for adults who were joining the kids. They used commercial TV techniques to hold the viewer’s attention plus repeated concepts to hammer them home. However, when they released a DVD of the first season, it was marked for Adults Only. Why? Because it included “inappropriate” situations like Cookie Monster smoking a pipe and kids playing in a construction site.

You know the song: “Can you tell me how to get to 123 Avenue B?” No? That would’ve been the show’s name except it sounded too much like New York City. Meanwhile, “Sesame Street” could be anywhere and that’s why it was chosen. Nevertheless, the set designer based the scenery on places in the Bronx and Harlem. The target audience was children from the inner-city and low-income families, so the show runners wanted them to feel at home.

As for the characters, the early test episodes divided segments between Muppets and humans. Children preferred the Muppets, so the writers started including puppets and humans interacting with each other. Many characters were created specifically to teach certain concepts, like The Count with math. Some were intended to educate kids about self-esteem, diversity, and peaceful conflict resolution. When you think about Bert and Ernie, which one is more like the child, and which is like the adult? Exactly – they look like peers, but Ernie is like the smart kid who comes out on top compared to the more serious grown-up. This was intended to build children’s confidence.

Where will Sesame Street go now? This is the last year of its contract with Max. The company promises episodes will remain available until 2027. After that, who knows? So, if you’re a big Sesame Street fan, display your pride in the show by sharing your nail art in hopes of keeping the show alive for decades to come.
